Gibbous Moon in Virgo: Achievement

Yesterday we stepped into the Gibbous phase, marked by a square-and-a-half aspect between the Sun and Moon.

This aspect pattern is generally thought of as challenging. With the Taurus Sun connecting to a Virgo Moon, though, we remember that challenge comes in many forms.

We’re in the middle decan of Virgo here with a Moon ready to shape the newly emerging worlds we are creating. This is a place of building, and especially of building structures that can contain new life. The tarot card linked to this decan is one of my favorites: the 9 of Pentacles, which shows us Pamela Coleman Smith’s image of a woman holding a hooded falcon in a walled garden.

The Gibbous phase brings us face to face with a final challenge, a last monster to confront before reaching the coming Full Moon in Scorpio. How might the challenges show up?

Maybe you are weary, feeling defeated, as if the tasks before us are too great. To this, the Gibbous Moon says, appreciate what you have already achieved. Value your contribution. Take heart. You have skills and resources you can draw on.

Perhaps you are feeling you’ve done enough. You might feel you have enough. In its most blatant form, this feeling says “I have mine. I owe you nothing. Go away.” If these feelings arise, give them space and ask: Can I have safety when so many are at risk? Can we have justice only for some?

If you are somewhere in between feeling you haven’t done enough and you’ve done all you can, then pause. What do you need? This is a question Taurus can ask and Virgo struggles with. Maybe this Gibbous Moon wants us to check in with our own structures so we are ready for what comes next.

Taking care of ourselves is good and necessary. It is the foundation of our ability to build the worlds we want to see.
