First Quarter Moon in Scorpio: Incisive

The First Quarter Moon is a time to act. The Moon squares the Sun, a challenge. We’re halfway to the Full Moon. Time to move decisively toward our goals.

But this isn’t a normal lunar cycle. We’re between eclipses. Things have happened. We need to take note of them, but much remains unknown. We’re not sure where we are.

Tonight’s Scorpio First Quarter highlights this lack of clarity.

The late Scorpio Moon squares the Sun in late Leo. The strong, royal Sun hopes to hold on to their exalted position but can feel a challenge coming. Scorpio can signify hidden enemies. Do I really understand my position? Is an attack coming from an unseen foe?

The Sun is conjunct the South Node in Leo and opposes the North Node in Aquarius. This Sun wants to feel secure, but the South Node is about letting go. Is there a threat close to the throne?

The Sun’s alignment with the Nodes means the Moon squares the Nodes as well as the Sun. The Scorpio Moon is at the South Bending, another signification of release.

This Scorpio Moon is especially mysterious. This decan links to the 7 of Cups in the Tarot, a card of illusion, of not being sure what we’re seeing, or what’s on offer.

The end of Scorpio is a place of loss and dissolution: the nigredo phase in the process of alchemical transformation. What has been, breaks down.

We’re aligned with the time-between-eclipses where nothing may be what it seems.

This Moon links to other powers in the chart. She makes degree-based, out of sign, aspects to Pluto, Neptune, and Uranus. She creates, in fact, one more version of Barbault’s Basket: opposing Uranus, trining Neptune, sextiling Pluto. As she moves into Sagittarius tomorrow, these aspects will become exact.

This Moon calls on other special powers. She and Mars are in mutual reception, as Mars is the ancient, nighttime ruler of Scorpio and the Moon rules Cancer. They support each other.

Pluto is the modern ruler of Scorpio and also has an influence.

In addition, the Moon, Mars, and Pluto are out of bounds. They’re all influencing each other while not really listening: Each going their own way, outlaw, rebel, trailblazer, or iconoclast.

Scorpio is a sharp energy. Among the Water signs, Scorpio is ice. We’re in a time of shadow and need to keep our eyes open. There will be signs, but they may not be clear.

At this First Quarter, we move warily. There is much we don’t know. We need our senses to be sharp and focused, without believing everything we see. Something important may emerge. Stay alert.
