The Gibbous Moon arrives before dawn (EDT), setting puzzles in place before we wake.

The end of Libra is an uncomfortable place for the sensitive Moon, as she tries to balance many demands. Her position only amplifies the challenges, because she sits at the apex of a triangular aspect called Thor’s Hammer (a clue to its being difficult).
A Thor’s Hammer forms when planets in square to each other form sesquiquadrates to another planet, in this case, the Libra Moon. The Sun and the North Node stand at the other points, squaring each other.
The Sun–Moon sesquiquadrate defines the Gibbous phase, which presents a challenge each cycle. This one is made more intense by the addition of a second connection to the North Node.
We might see this as the Moon, alert to the needs of others, trying to balance the call of the present, so bright in the light of the Gemini Sun, with dreams of the future at the North Node in Pisces.
This is another in a series of challenging charts for the Moon this cycle, so it’s fortunate the Moon makes supportive aspects as well.
The Moon trines Mercury in Gemini, who helps her find the right words for any difficulties that arise. A square to Jupiter in Cancer, where Jupiter is exalted, offers beneficent support.
Oppositions to Chiron and Eris bring personal and global healing needs to the Moon’s attention.
The rest of the chart is full of complexities. Perhaps the most important is Mars square Pluto, one of the most difficult aspects of the year. Mars in Taurus square Pluto in Aquarius connects the ancient and modern rulers of Scorpio, pointing to the deep and dark territory here. In fixed signs, neither planet will easily give ground, although Pluto will always win the long game.
These next few days may present challenges on the world stage as well as individually. While the Moon in Libra prefers a quiet balance, we can keep in mind this quote from Alain de Botton, “Everything worth fighting for unbalances your life.”
