We enter the First Quarter phase with a Moon at the end of Sag: determined but tired. Committed to finishing the work with a hard road ahead.
The Sun at the end of Virgo has grown wise enough to know nothing lasts forever. Even the most tightly woven threads will eventually wear away.
But neither luminary is giving up. There’s a stern realism here. The road is long. We’re weary. Yet the goal is worth it. We move toward something of real value.
The Moon trines the South Node in Leo and sextiles the North Node in Aquarius. We move into unknown territory, determined to stay the course.
The Sun sextiles Mars at the end of Cancer. This is a dissatisfied Mars, cranky and out of sorts. The Sun can try to cajole Mars with a reminder that not even discontent lasts forever, or might simply keep in mind that journeys with difficult companions will eventually end.
Venus continues to move through early Scorpio, a preview of the degrees she’ll retrograde back through. She remains in touch with the outer planets. A square to Pluto is an ongoing reminder of how deep this retrograde journey might be. She’s also at the apex of a yod with Neptune and Uranus, forming quincunxes to each as they sextile each other.
A yod is an awkward connection among three planets that share neither element nor mode. The answer is said to be opposite the apex, where we see Chiron the wounded healer in a waning, out of sign opposition to Venus.
Chiron at the end of Aries brings a fascinating energy into the mix. This final decan is ruled by Venus, according to the descending order method. Austin Coppock named this decan The Burning Rose and writes of a talent here for Venusian power to solve conflicts.
Mercury in Libra opposes Saturn in Aries, while Jupiter’s trine to Saturn wanes. Jupiter’s influence and Mercury’s skill with language can help this Saturn figure out where the blockages are.
The First Quarter is a time to make progress toward goals. This forward movement is not well reflected in the chart itself. We’re not giving up. We’re willing to put one foot in front of the other. Yet the road feels hard.
