First Quarter Moon in Libra: A Caring Balance

Today’s First Quarter Moon arrives with the Solstice, summer in the Northern hemisphere, winter in the South.

On a day of equal light and dark, equal day and night, when the Sun enters the Moon’s sign of Cancer, the Moon is in Libra, sign of balance.

The Moon rules this first face of Libra. Here, she focuses on injustice, bringing Libran skills like diplomacy, tact, making sure everyone’s at the table, everyone is heard, to find lasting solutions.

That’s an ideal though. It sounds like a platitude, maybe an empty one. Or is it?

This Libra Moon is neither naive nor “soft.” She stands at one apex of a kite pattern in which she trines Pluto, trines Uranus, opposes Neptune. Does this Moon know what’s going on in the world? Yep. In the depths of the human psyche? Yep. Does she understand deep change? You bet.

Venus in Leo rules this Moon, a bold, queenly Venus separating from the same outer planets the Moon’s moving into. She’s a seasoned campaigner. She’s got advice.

This Venus moves to trine Saturn, who she’ll brief on what she’s learned. It’s time to take what we know in our hearts and bones, and use that knowing to build new structures.

Mercury slows down in late Cancer, preparing to turn retrograde. We’re rethinking care. What does genuine care look like? Feel like? Act like? How do we make it real?

The Moon sextiles Chiron, newly arrived in Taurus, the other Venus-ruled sign. In fixed Earth, Chiron is ready for new and real forms of care, standing up to build new structures.

What does balance look like when care becomes part of the equation?
