Crescent Moon in Cancer: Containers

posted in: Cancer, Crescent Moon | 0

Today we step into the Crescent phase. The Moon’s lighting grows in the sky. We begin to see signs of emerging growth. We’re called to put effort in to reach our goals.

The New Moon phase brought us a lift as Jupiter moved into Pisces. Perhaps we feel fresh hope, the enlivening of a new vision, renewed optimism. This can help but might also entice us away from necessary effort. Instead of drifting, we want to create spaces where work can happen.

As if to remind us, the Moon in Cancer moves to conjunct Mars out of bounds. Our action principle has been awash in emotion, feeling irritable and ineffective. The Moon, who knows this territory better than anyone, moves in with a hug and a plan: Let emotions move deeply in and through the body. Your body. Only then can we heal.

Images of containers abound in the decans where we find the planets today. (I’m using Austin Coppock and T. Susan Chang here.)

The first decan of Pisces, where Jupiter sits, is the labyrinth. This decan, ruled by Saturn, reminds us that experiences with spirit support us best when they are contained. Not controlled. Not predefined. Not constrained. But held. Experienced in a vessel that supports us in our awe.

The second decan of Cancer is the walled garden. Here I call on Resmaa Menakem, whose work brings us back, again and again, to the body, where the trauma that fuels hatred and violence are stored. In the container of the body, we find healing and hope.

We find Venus, the North Node, and Mercury in the second decan of Gemini. Here the dual nature of Gemini is contained in a single body and must be reconciled. This is painful and yet the path to understanding leads through this recognition that we each contain multitudes.

Jupiter in Pisces offers hope from a seemingly endless bounty. Even if the bounty is truly endless, we are not. To reach our goals, we first tend to our own containers. How are we feeling? What do we need? This is a time for making sure you’re in a good space.
