The Gibbous phase presents a challenge. The Moon is sesquiquadrate the Sun, an awkward, squarish sort of connection. In Joseph Campbell’s hero cycle, this is the last challenge before we reach the bright light of the Full Moon. We think we’re ready to win the prize, but instead face an obstacle or opponent.

The Moon in mid Aquarius is out of sorts. The rarified atmosphere of fixed Air has little support to offer the sensitive Moon.
The Sun is poised in the final, anaretic degree of Virgo–not only the final degree, but the final minutes of that degree. An hour and a half after we enter the Gibbous phase, the Sun moves into Libra to mark the equinox.
Surely this Sun will stabilize us in the point of perfect balance? Mmmm, no, not really. At the beginning of Libra, we long for balance without having attained it. We want to find a calm place but still feel chaos around us.
The Sun applies to aspect the three outer planets who signal the challenges of our time. At the moment of equinox, the Sun will oppose Neptune while trining Pluto and Uranus. The equinox Sun will sit at the apex of the outer planet Kite.
Venus, separating from her square to Pluto, continues on the forward path to her retrograde station on October 3. There’s still time to map where this Venusian journey into the underworld will fall in your birth chart.
Mars at the end of Cancer squares Chiron who has just moved back into late Aries. As we head into an Aries Full Moon, we’re pushed to check our emotional equilibrium. Mars in Cancer can feel hurt without being able to address it cleanly. What can Chiron in Aries teach us about healthy anger?
As we step into the Libra equinox, heading for a kinetic Full Moon in Aries, what do we need to balance (or rebalance)? In a world tilting sideways, how can we feel secure on our own path?
