Gibbous Moon in Libra: In the Balance

posted in: Gibbous Moon, Libra | 0

Tomorrow morning, we enter the Gibbous phase, the last before an intense Full Moon in Scorpio.

The Gibbous Moon presents a challenge, There is one here for us, but let me say right off, it’s part of the larger challenge of our times. And if you’re like me, you probably don’t need or want more problems.

The Moon in early Libra presents a challenge of discernment.

Just past a conjunction with the South Node and opposition to the North Node, Ceres, and Saturn, the Moon is navigating familiar territory that remains confusing and exhausting.

Yes, we know we’re in a time of Fate. We know the world is changing and we must change with it. If things could stay still for one news cycle, just one, maybe we could find our way. Yet, here we are.

The tarot card associated with the first decan of Libra, where we find the Moon, is the Two of Swords. On this card, we see a woman seated on a bench with deep ocean behind her. She’s blindfolded and holds a naked sword in each hand, her arms crossed before her.

Austin Coppock names this decan “A Blindfold and a Sword.” He invokes justice attained through balance–for example, when Ma’at weighs the hearts of the dead on her delicate scales.

T. Susan Chang names this decan “Blind Equilibrium,” writing of the balance needed between the seen and the unseen.

Tensions between surface and depth, manifest and hidden, show up in the alignment of the Moon with the Nodes, with the strong trine between the Moon and Pluto, and the opposition to Venus and Neptune in Aries.

The square-and-a-half from the Moon to the Sun signals the challenge at hand, intriguing because Libra and Taurus are Venus’ two signs.

The Sun in Taurus, just past Bealtaine, glories in the energies of growth, with both feet on the ground and hands buried in the soil.

Imagining the Moon in Libra with the Nodes and their energies of fate, communing with Plutonian depths, while facing into the new, energized dreams of fiery Venus and Neptune.

The coming Scorpio Full Moon will be intense. The Gibbous challenge is discernment.

It’s time to chose a focus. Not for all time, but for this Full Moon and the next weeks.

What to we most want to know? Which voices and sources do we need to seek out, listen to, and ponder? What do we need, each of us, to go forward?

What we need most may not be the most obvious. Consider alternatives. This blindfold is not intended to withhold information, but instead to focus our vision on what is not easily seen.

Look within.
