The Power of Language: Full Moon in Gemini

posted in: Full Moon, Gemini | 1

Mercury-ruled Gemini is the most dual of signs and at the same time completely non binary.

What better Full Moon to welcome Merriam-Webster’s announcement that their Word of the Year is ‘they’ as a singular nonbinary pronoun?

I am celebrating by realizing the planets all need this. Each is complex, multivalent, nonbinary. I’ve never been able to use ‘it’ comfortably to refer to a planet. They are beings. Alive. Archetypal. Ensouled.

The Sun and Moon might seem the trickiest, yet we each have one of each, right? In Irish, the Sun has a feminine pronoun and the Moon a masculine one. The Egyptians included gods and goddesses among their Moon deities.

Hermes (Mercury) surmounts all dualities. Easy one here.

Venus and Mars? These are the categories most in need of stretching and flexing.

Some say Saturn used to be a feminine energy. A goddess, even. Capricorn, an Earth sign, is yin, not yang.

Jupiter: Listing vibrant, generous, expansive women and goddesses to round out this archetype will be fun and celebratory.

Uranus. Nonbinary. Totally.

Neptune has always felt more feminine to me. So many cultures have ocean and river and water goddesses. I am not a fan of Neptune, the god.

Pluto is strong in my chart and a focus of my shamanic work. They told me years ago they were outside gender as we understand it. They appear in journeys as ancient, sometimes human, sometimes nonhuman, and not gendered in any obvious way.

And so on for all planets, stars, asteroids, and all beings we work with. They. Word.
