Sun enters Aries (Equinox): Silver Lining

Tomorrow night, the Sun enters Aries to begin a new zodiacal year. This is the Aries Ingress, the Vernal Equinox, a few days of equal day and night.

Side note: The alignment of the Aries Ingress with the Equinox is precisely why the zodiacal signs in Western astrology no longer align with the constellations they’re named for.

The Earth is not stable on its axis. It wobbles, very, very slowly. Over thousands of years, this wobble took the signs and constellations out of alignment, as Aries continued to align with the Equinox.

Vedic astrology follows precession (the official name for the wobble), keeping the signs and constellations aligned but losing the seasonal tether to the equinoxes and solstices.

Back to this year’s Aries Ingress! This chart holds hints for the zodiacal year ahead.

The passionate Leo Moon tells us events will be bright, dramatic, and expressive. The Moon trines the Aries Sun, adding more heat and drama. This Equinox Moon is also out of bounds, setting her own course through time and space. It’s not pointing to a quiet year.

Pluto is prominent, opposed by the Moon and sextiled by the Sun. The things we get dramatic about will be deep, foundational, hidden, explosive, and taboo. Power struggles, anyone?

Mars, ruler of Aries, is angular in the Equinox chart set to Washington D.C. Planets at chart angles become emphasized. This Mars also rules the Sun, as ruler of Aries, and rules the DC chart, with Scorpio rising.

Mercury, the mind, is also in dramatic Aries conjunct the North Node and Chiron. Thinking is direct, fast, and heated. This fiery approach to communication can be triggering. A practice of stepping back and breathing slowly could be helpful, as needed.

This all points to a year of conflict, and also a year in which creative solutions can be actively and enthusiastically explored.

Venus in lovely Pisces is present, caught between Mars and Saturn. This Venus wants to create and connect and thrive, but needs support.

And here’s the silver lining: Venus sextiles Jupiter, with whom she’s in mutual reception. Jupiter strengthens Venus besieged, and Venus helps Jupiter as they approach Uranus.

If we trace out the dispositors for the luminaries, we end up with Venus–Jupiter every time, which is wonderful.

Moon —> Sun—> Mars —> Saturn —> Jupiter (and here we dance to Venus and back)

We’re heading into a compelling year. I love the idea of Venus and Jupiter offering special boons as we go.

Love you posts! Great explanation for the equinox. Thank you. Go Venus Jupiter!!! The Vedic new year is on the 8th on the eclipse. I look at Vedic and western. They both have helpful things to say.

Thank you! Vedic astrology fascinates me but I know so little–it’s on my “someday” list. And go, Venus & Jupiter for sure 🙂

Thanks, Denisse, … yes, the Rising Sign of the Sibley chart (the most common chart used for the birth of the USA) is indeed Sagittarius. If you set the 2024 Aries Ingress chart to Washington, DC, though that chart has Scorpio rising.
