Aries Equinox: Fire in Water

posted in: Celestial Event | 0

We welcome the Aries equinox, the opening of a new zodiacal year. It’s the time of equal day and night, balancing what can seem to be opposing forces.

Here in the northern hemisphere, we welcome the a stronger Sun. In Aries, the Sun is exalted. We too may feel exalted, no matter the place of Aries in our birth charts.

The Sun is our luminary, the one who sustains life on Earth. This is our star, around whom we all spiral as we hurtle through space.

We’ve been swimming through a deep, destabilizing, Piscean ocean. Not only the Sun, but Neptune, Jupiter, and Mercury dive together into the currents. fishing up who knows what from our psyches. Even if we love this energy of dreams, creative visions, and spirit, we welcome the bright light the Sun offers to guide us.

I return to an ancient theme known as “fire in water.” This is well known in Irish and Celtic mythologies. It’s also present in Hindu myth and appears to have deep Indo-European roots.

The theme winds through tales in which the only way a seeker can find the treasure, or gain nspiration, is to reach fire by diving deep into water.

There’s an amazing fragment collected by Evans-Wentz about magical beings diving deep to reach the throne of a king. Upon touching him or his throne, they are each illuminated with a fiery glow and shoot to the surface, ready for more adventures.

The Well of Segais, which offers all forms of inspiration, can only be found deep in the ocean. Surrounded by magical hazels whose nuts drop into the pool, the well feeds the Salmon of Wisdom.

This fish, when caught and eaten, inspired the great poets.

From the Jungian perspective, the deep psyche is the place where magic, inspiration, and healing is found–but only after facing fears and secrets we believe are too painful to accept.

Healing happens when we bring the confusing, chaotic, magical, sometimes disturbing contents of the psyche into the light.

What treasures have you found in Pisces that the Aries Sun now invites you to see clearly?
