First Quarter Moon in Gemini: Spin

Today we pivot, turning toward the Full Moon with grace and energy, or maybe some reluctant stumbling, depending on how things are going.

This is the First Quarter square. The Moon moves outside the orbit of the Earth and toward Mars. We commit to act. We move it.

This is a mutable square, Gemini Moon to Pisces Sun. Perhaps the more powerful square today is Aries Venus squaring Capricorn Saturn, building today and perfecting tomorrow morning.

There’s a contest here. We’ll need to choose and then move, just like Gwion Bach.

We left young Gwion Bach at the moment he stuck his thumb in his mouth. A hot bubble of liquid burst from Cerridwen’s magic cauldron. Landing on his hand, it burned.

But once in his mouth, Gwion Bach had the magic. It was his. He knew all things and the first thing he knew was that Cerridwen was going to kill him.

What follows is a classic tale of shape shifting as the boy tried to escape Cerridwen’s relentless pursuit. He became a hare, she a greyhound. He became a salmon, she an otter. He became a bird, she a hawk.

See how mutable these two are and how well matched. This desperate escape feels almost like a dance. The Moon squares Neptune today as well as the Sun. Magic is afoot.

What are we running from? What are we running toward? Which is the stronger motivation?

How can we access our own skillful magics in this chase? Who are we, who can we be, to reach our goals?

These next few days are full of changes. On March 4, Mercury will retrograde back into Aquarius and Venus will enter Taurus. Before we reach these more fixed forms, what changes so we want and need to make?

Today’s the day to spin a tale, spin reality a bit, find those escape hatches, jump into rabbit holes. Who do we want to be?
