Balsamic Moon: Detox

Tomorrow we enter the Balsamic phase with the Moon in late Virgo. This last phase before a New Moon is always a time for letting go. A late Virgo Moon schedules us for a detox.

Virgo attention is detailed and focused on the physical. How’ve we been sleeping? Eating? What about exercise? This is mundane, especially with world-shifting events happening almost daily. Still, this is where we live. This is where we are.

The Sun is conjunct Mercury in mid Scorpio. As we enter the Balsamic phase, the exact cazimi is past, but a close conjunction remains. Both are strong in this part of Scorpio, which the Sun is said to rule. The Sun and Mercury explore deep mysteries. This is the decan of astrological Samhain, the beginning of the ancient Celtic year and the opening of the dark half of the dark half.

We enter the realm of the ancestors, the honored dead. One key task before such a shift is cleansing.

The mystic rectangle is still present, anchored by the North Node in Aquarius, South Node in Leo with Jupiter and Mars, Chiron and Eris in Aries, and Venus retrograde in Libra. This pattern focuses on releasing overweening ego (the South Node group), healing our connection to our own mission (Chiron/Eris/Aries), what we’re learning on our Venus descent journey, and new and unusual landscapes for the future (Pluto).

The late Virgo Moon sits at the bottom of an odd kite pattern–odd because the Moon aspects the rest of the kite by degree and not by sign, importing a careful Virgo vibe into the dynamic connection among the three outer planets. The Moon opposes Neptune while trining Pluto and Uranus.

We’re aware of the state of the world and the challenges it brings into our lives. We understand the stakes involved in what happens next and how it happens. Yet our key task over the next few days is to rest and repair. To let go of fears and anxieties (not easy for Virgo) so we’re ready to take the next steps.

We don’t know everything. With Venus and Mercury still retrograde, along with Neptune, Saturn, Eris, Chiron, and Uranus, it might feel like we don’t know anything.

This not-knowing gives us space to check in with ourselves. If you’ve been living on coffee and sugar, eat some real food. If you haven’t slept well in days, unwind and take naps. This isn’t a vacation. We’re not checking out. (Virgo wouldn’t allow that.) But we can’t keep going without taking care of our bodies. We’re rebuilding strength for the next steps.
